2nd place overall
Developerweek was the biggest event I’ve been to. I arrived at the event to just check out the sponsors because I didn’t have a team. A few minutes at the event, a group of people approached me and asked if I would like to join them. Turns out, this team was really diverse. Everyone on the team had a special skill. Liza was an international business student. Minji was a designer. Mario, Collin and I were engineers. We spent the first few hours working with Liza and Minji to create a business strategy and translated it to design. When we had a sound plan, Mario, Collin and I split up the engineering work. Since we were all experienced full-stack engineers, we finished the project on the first day and went home early. On the second and last day, we utilized the time to practice our presentation and demo.

Leading a team to victory
This was one of the most fun I’ve had at a hackathon. I arrived at the hackathon with a group of junior students from Make School. This was their first hackathon ever and I was so glad I was able to give them a great first experience. Being multidisciplinary allowed me to fill in and help the team on any part of the stack. Whenever a student got stuck, we would talked through the problem by breaking it down to smaller challenges. We would then explore possible solutions and talk through the pros and cons of each approach. The whole stack was sponsor APIs so we were learning on the go and knocking challenges down as we went along. I am happy that we were able to mesh so well as a team and achieve so much in such a short amount of time! We ended the event with the most innovative use of Clarifai machine learning model API and 2nd place overall.
